Error Code Cause Solution
Flashing F – Refrigerator Display The refrigerator needs to be power cycled. Disconnect the refrigerator from the power outlet. Be careful not to tip the refrigerator when moving it away from the wall. Leave the power disconnected for five minutes. Plug the refrigerator back into the power outlet. Verify the refrigerator is cooling. If the error code returns or if the refrigerator is not cooling, contact It Is Fixed Appliance Repair for assistance.
Flashing 6 – Refrigerator Display The refrigerator is too warm. It could be caused by putting hot food in the refrigerator compartment or leaving the door open. The error will resolve when the refrigerator reaches the correct temperature.
Steady 6 – Refrigerator Display Error with the onboard computer Disconnect the power from the refrigerator. Allow the refrigerator to remain unplugged and off for five minutes. When the refrigerator is reconnected, the error should be cleared.
d – Refrigerator Display The air damper inside the refrigerator compartment is stuck The air damper regulates the flow of air inside the refrigerator. If the air damper is broken, it will need to be replaced.
C – Refrigerator Display Failure of the thermistor inside the refrigerator compartment. The thermistor is a sensor used for measuring temperature. Before examining the thermistor, disconnect the refrigerator from the power. Locate the thermistor in the refrigerator compartment. Inspect the wires connecting the thermistor to the refrigerator. Reconnect the wires if they are loose. If the connection is secure, the thermistor may be broken and should be replaced.
C – Freezer display Failure of the thermistor inside the freezer compartment. The thermistor is a sensor used for measuring temperature. Before examining the thermistor, disconnect the refrigerator from the power. Locate the thermistor in the freezer compartment. Inspect the wires connecting the thermistor to the freezer. Reconnect the wires if they are loose. If the connection is secure, the thermistor may be broken and should be replaced.
CF – Freezer display This messages indicates a problem between the user interface control and the main control board. Disconnect the refrigerator from the power. Following the instructions in your manual, disconnect the main control board and reconnect all the wires. Plug the refrigerator back in. If this does not resolve the issue, either the user interface control or main control board will need to be replaced. Contact a whirlpool refrigerator repair specialist for assistance.
PO – Control panel display Power Outage indicator – The freezer is too warm, greater than 18℉ or -8℃. If the refrigerator lost power, it may cause this error. Verify that the refrigerator is connected securely to the power outlet. To reset the temperature display, press freezer temperature on the keypad. If the problem persists, refer to our troubleshooting guide for a freezer that is not getting cold.
Audible alarm – Refrigerator / Freezer Over Temperature An alarm will sound if the refrigerator is too warm, greater than 48℉ or -9℃, or the freezer is too warm, greater than 18℉ or -8℃ for more than one and a half hours. Verify that the refrigerator door is closed. The audible alarm will shut down automatically when the temperature returns to normal, but the control panel indicator will continue to flash until it is acknowledged. To reset the temperature display, press freezer temperature on the keypad. If the problem persists, refer to our troubleshooting guide for a refrigerator that is not getting cold.
Water Filter Status Light If the light is on, the refrigerator water filter should be replaced. Change the water filter following the instructions outlined in your owner’s manual and then reset the Water Filter Status Light.

If your display has a MAX COOL and a MAX ICE button: Press both buttons at the same time and hold for three seconds.

If your display has a FILTER RESET button: press and hold the button until the light turns off.

If your display has a WATER FILTER button: Press and hold the button for three seconds.
